The Epistemology of Phoenix
Year: 2019
Venue: Sejong Presidential Archive (South Korea)
This work is a solipsistic conception of subjective significance of memory culture. Presenting an analysis of the nature of memory experiences, this project investigates if there can be a coherent source of beliefs about the past. One question that philosophers have discussed is whether memory experiences are to be equated with (1) the mere having of certain images, or with (2) the mere having of thoughts about the past, or with (3) a state that involves both images and thoughts.

This fabrication experiment analyze the role of communicating the ideologies of King Sejong through his music by demonstrating the interplay of internal factors (needs and values) and external factors (intensity, color, size) that are affecting the perceptual salience. The transcoding potential of an ancient cultural data allows history to be displayed at its pure abstract forms. These memory images/ forms are presented as a mere phenomenological curiosity to challenge audience’s belief about memory beliefs.
